It’s been over three decades since the Milwaukee County Zoo welcomed a new train engine to its North Shore Bank Safari Train fleet, but that all changed on August 8, when Engine No. 2025 — a 15” Tier 4 diesel hydraulic locomotive — arrived at the Zoo! To celebrate the arrival of Engine No. 2025, join us for Trains & Tracks, with activities taking place from 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The inaugural ride will set off at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. Those inaugural riders will receive a special first-ride commemorative button, a complimentary cookie from the dining car, and a Polaroid picture taken in the train car before departing the station.
The celebration will continue through 2 p.m. with additional activities that include:
Conductor hats — All riders throughout the event will receive a Milwaukee County Zoo conductor’s hat.
Engine button — The first 500 riders will receive an Engine No. 2025 button.
Photo station — Pose with a giant “Inaugural Ride” ticket.
Train crossing trivia — Follow the “tracks” to get to the train crossings and answer a trivia question at each. For one correct answer, you’ll be entered to win a ride within Engine No. 2025 itself.
Train car coloring sheet — Draw yourself in the train coach and add it to our train!
Train Shop open house — Between 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., visit the Zoo’s Train Shop to see where the engines are maintained.
