FAQs: Boo at the Zoo

  • Are tickets required for this event?

    Yes, pre-purchased tickets are required. Purchase them online here, beginning Sept. 12 at 9 a.m. Zoo Passes and previously purchased tickets are not valid for this special evening.

  • Do Zoo Pass members get a discount?

    Yes, Zoo Pass members save 15% with code treat and their member ID. Zoo Pass discount must be applied at the time of purchase.

  • Are tickets refundable or transferrable to a different night?

    Please purchase carefully, as tickets are not refundable and honored only on the evening for which you purchased them.

  • Are refunds provided if it’s raining?

    Boo at the Zoo is held rain or shine, so refunds are not provided.

  • Should my child wear a costume? Can adults wear costumes?

    Costumes are encouraged but are not required! Adults are welcome to wear costumes — please remember this is a family-friendly event and we ask that all costumes are appropriate for small children and are merry, not scary.

  • Is there trick or treating?

    Yes, there are 10 treat stops along the Trick-or-Treat Trail. Please remember your trick-or-treat bag (bags are not provided)! Allergy-friendly options are also available.

  • Is this event family-friendly?

    Yes! Decorations include scarecrows, Pirate’s Cove, the Candy Corn Farmer’s Market, and hundreds of carved pumpkins.

  • What animals can we see?

    These animal buildings are open for Boo at the Zoo: Aquatic & Reptile Center, Dairy Complex, Florence Mila Borchert Big Cat Country, Primates of the World, Small Mammals Building, and Sterns Family Apes of Africa. For their health and safety, outdoor animals are not viewable.

  • Are the concession stands open?

    Yes, food and beverages are available throughout the Zoo.
