Statement on Ocean Connections

As a business partner to the Milwaukee County Zoo, Ocean Connections has provided programming that inspires seal and sea lion conservation. The Zoo thanks Ocean Connections for its decades-long partnership.

The Zoo is forced to make difficult financial decisions each year. While the Zoo values its business partners, we also need them to contribute to the operational success of the Zoo. The expense of renovations to the pool and surrounding facility in which Ocean Connections operates is far more than the Zoo’s budget can accommodate.

The Zoo’s primary concern is for the health and safety of the animals in its care, including those of Ocean Connections. This is why Ocean Connections was given notice in October 2022, that 2023 would be its last operating year at the Milwaukee County Zoo — giving it ample opportunity to make plans to relocate its animals.

In partnership with the Milwaukee County Zoo, Ocean Connections has created countless memories and helped shape young minds through the power of its marine mammal experiences. We wish Ocean Connections much success with their continued endeavors.

It is important to note the Milwaukee County Zoo has a Harbor Seal Habitat, and guests can continue to visit these animals at the Zoo, open year-round.
