| In July, the polar bear underwater viewing exhibit opened to the public. The 65,000-gallon freshwater pool included three windows for the public to view the polar bears underwater. The exhibit was designed so that the water is filtered five times an hour in order to maintain crystal clear viewing. Also, the sea lion pool was constructed as part of the $25 million expansion and renovation program. The pool was built as 32 feet wide by 83 feet long, and 14 feet deep. The construction cost $500,000. | ||
