Mandara the Gorilla left the Milwaukee County Zoo on a breeding loan to the National Zoo in Washington D.C.  Also this year, the Wolf Woods exhibit was unveiled to the public.  In May of 1985, the one-acre landscaped area became home to a pack of white Arctic wolves.  An authentic 12-foot totem pole was constructed in recognition of the important role wolves have played in Native American culture.  Both the Feline and Small Mammal Buildings were renovated with natural rockwork, pools and plantings.  In November, a $25 million Capital Campaign plan for the Milwaukee County Zoo was announced.  The six-year plan detailed the blueprints for future development and renovation projects.  The master plan was designed to promote and preserve the natural beauty of the Zoo.  Milwaukee County and the Zoological Society shared the cost of the Capital Campaign equally.
